Day 2: Setting Sail for Mackinac Island

"There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going." - Sheri L. Dew

After training and our tour we woke up early on Tuesday morning to begin the sailing adventure. The weather was sublime, and we began sailing eastward.  Before sailing toward Mackinac Island (wiki), home of the world's best fudge, we wound our way around lighthouses on the open lake and past boathouses by inlets, coves and bays.  We even sailed close to one man's private Island, Dollar Island, in Les Cheneux.  Captain Bob and his friends remarked that as far as sailing conditions go, we could not have asked for a better day.  The scouts and the rest of the crew quickly learned how to work the jib, to tack, to trim the line, and to dock the boat.  After docking on Mackinac Island, we learned how to find fudge almost as quickly as we had learned how to sail.  Mackinac Island in the summer is beautiful.  We strolled by yachts on the dock, sauntered by bicyclists on the streets, and perambulated into myriad fudge shops.  I bought some fudge from May's Candy Shop.  I was not in the least bit disappointed.

Can you tell that I love sailing, and that I love lighthouses?  Even if you can't, I do.

Liberty!
This reminds me of Alma 56:47 and our scouts
I like that.
This is almost as good as my yacht, but not quite.
